The XXII Salón del Manga de Barcelona presented its newest developments in a press conference held on October 24; journalists from the most important media took part in this event. The Salón will take place from Saturday, October 29, till Tuesday, November 1, in the premises of Fira Barcelona Montjuïc. The event will take up Palaces 1, 2, 4, 5 and Univers Square, with a large covered stage. For the fifth year in a row, the Salón will increase the exhibition area to 70,000 square meters, as well as the amount of activities and exhibitors.
The large covered stage located in Univers Square will be the location for the cosplay competition, the Anime Song Contest, traditional Asian dance shows and musical performances. Among the cosplayers that we'll be able to enjoy are the Mexican cosplay pair TWIN Cosplay, winners of the 2015 World Cosplay Summit; Rian CYD and Frea Mai, winners in 2016; or Rinaca and Sørine Cosplay.
The musical offer includes the well-known all-female Japanese band Band-Maid and the Brazilians Gaijin Sentai.
The YO-KAI WATCH and Pokemon franchises will have a special place in the XXII Salón del Manga de Barcelona. They'll both be main attractions in the Nintendo –official sponsor of the Salón– 3.500-square meters videogaming area, and will also have their own exhibitions.
The presentation of the XXII Salón del Manga de Barcelona before numerous media was attended by the studies coordinator of Escuela Joso, Centro de Cómic y Artes Visuales, Josep Maria Polls; Nintendo 3DS' Product Manager, Manuel Curdi; the director of the Salón del Manga de Barcelona, Carles Santamaria; the deputy director of Fundación Japón in Spain, Keiko Ozaki; and the acting consul general of Japan in Barcelona, Akiko Sagano.
Japanese literature will be paramount in the XXII Salón del Manga de Barcelona, with a broad activity schedule. Proof of this is the confirmation that the renowned author Banana Yoshimoto, who has published her works in more than 30 countries –Spain among them–, will take part in the event, thanks to the collaboration of Fundación Japón.
One of the central themes of this XXII Salón del Manga de Barcelona will be Japanese literature. The show will have the Japanese author Mitsuyo Kakuta (Yokohama, Japan, 1967) as a guest. Ms. Kakuta is one of the most well-known Japanese writers, and has written more than fifty novels, story collections and essays.
